Elk seizoen tijdens het eindpresentatieweekend hebben we een fotowedstrijd als afsluiting van onze fotografiecursussen. Dit jaar zal het in ons virtuele open house niet anders zijn!

Omdat het seizoen vanaf nu uit 2 blokken bestaat, zijn de inzendingen van blok 1 en 2 samen beoordeeld. Onze jury, fotograaf Cigdem Yuksel en onze directeur Dennis van Galen, heeft tien deelnemers genomineerd.

Het thema dat de docenten hebben gekozen voor dit seizoen is: Huidhonger. Het is een term uit de Nederlandse psychologie en pedagogiek die het verlangen/behoefte van fysiek contant onderschrijft. Deze term is in Nederland in algemeen gebruik geraakt tijdens het begin van de COVID-19 pandemie en is daarom door onze fotografiedocenten gekozen als een toepasselijk onderwerp.

Wat houdt de wedstrijd in?

Er is een jurystemming en een openbare stemming. Bij de jurystemming wint de door de jury geselecteerde winnaar een gratis 8-weekse cursus naar keuze (in het voor- of najaar) bij CREA. Ook zal het werk gedurende het hele seizoen op groot formaat in de hal komen te hangen!

Bij de publieksprijs ontvangt de winnaar een cadeaukaart ter waarde van € 50, - om te besteden bij Kamera Express.

Hoe werkt het?

Er zijn drie manieren waarop je je stem kunt uitbrengen op de genomineerden:

Op deze website! Hieronder staan alle genomineerden. Klik op het hartjesicoon bij je favoriete foto om je stem uit te brengen.
Op Facebook: like je favoriete foto op onze fotowedstrijdpost!
Op Instagram: kies jouw favoriet met onze Insta-story polls (wordt gepost op donderdag 4 februari)

Stemmen is mogelijk vanaf het moment dat deze website gelanceerd wordt tot 5 februari 2021 om 12.00 uur. Daarna tellen we de stemmen en om 17.00 uur worden de winnaars bekend gemaakt via een post op Instagram en Facebook!

Every semester during the final

presentation weekend, we have a photo competition as a finale to our photography courses. This year, in our virtual open house, it will be no different!

Because the season consists of 2 blocks now, the submissions of the first and second block have been reviewd together. Our jury, photographer Cigdem Yuksel and our director Dennis van Galen, have selected ten nominees for the competition.

The theme the teachers had decided on thisseason is: Yearning Skin. It is based

on a term stemming from Dutch psychology

and pedagogy that describes the

desire/need for physical contact.

This term gained a lot of usage in the

Netherlands during the beginning of the

COVID-19 pandemic and was therefore

picked as a suitable theme for this

season’s edition of the photo competition.

What does the competition entail?

There is a jury vote and a public vote. For the jury vote, the winner selected by the jury will win an 8-week course of choice (in the Spring of Fall season) at CREA. Additionally, your work will be printed on a large scale and will be hung in the main hall for the whole season! For the public vote, the winner will

receive a gift card worth €50,- to

spend at Kamera Express.

How does it work?

There are three ways in which you can castyour vote on the nominees:

On this website! Below you can find the nominees. Click on the heart button of your favourite photograph to cast your vote.
On Facebook: like your favourite photograph on our photo competition post!
On Instagram: pick your favourite with our Insta-story polls (on Monday and Friday only!)

Voting will be possible from the moment that the nominees are announced until 12 PM Friday the 5th of February 2021. After

that we will count the votes and at 5 p.m. the jury will announce the winners in a post on our Instagram and Facebook.

CREA directeur

Dennis is sinds eind 2019 de nieuwe directeur van CREA. Hij was hiervoor hoofd artistiek bureau bij de dynamische theaterorganisatie van Adelheid Roosen waar hij onder andere werkte met fotografe Cigdem Yuksel.

Daarvoor was hij onder andere als directeur bij Jeugdtheater Hofplein in Rotterdam en wist daar zelfs een jeugdvoorstelling naar Lowlands te krijgen. Kunsteducatie is een verbindende factor in zijn loopbaan. Zo was hij artistiek leider van de opleiding Theaterdocent van de Amsterdamse Academie voor Theater en Dans. Dennis was (gast)docent op verschillende conservatoria, theaterscholen in binnen- en buitenland, de Nederlandse Filmacademie en werkte als art-consultant voor een hedendaagse kunstgalerie in Sydney, Australië.

Dennis has been the new director of CREA since the end of 2019. He was previously head of artistic affairs at Adelheid Roosen's dynamic theatre organisation where he worked with photographer Cigdem Yuksel, among others.

Before that, he was director of Youth Theatre Hofplein in Rotterdam and even managed to get a youth performance to Lowlands. Art education is a connecting factor in his career. For instance, he was artistic director of the Theatre teacher programme at the Amsterdam Academy of Theatre and Dance. Dennis was a (guest) teacher at various conservatoires, theatre schools in the Netherlands and abroad, the Dutch Film Academy, and worked as an art consultant for a contemporary art gallery in Sydney, Australia.

Fotograaf Cigdem Yuksel richt haar camera op onderwerpen daar waar het wringt, waar conflict is of ontstaat. Ze werkte voor de Volkskrant en richtte haar lens voornamelijk op de vluchtelingencrisis. In 2016 reisde ze met twee verslaggevers af naar de Turkse stad Gaziantep en maakte een schrijnende portrettenserie van Syrische vluchtelingenkinderen die werkten in schoenenfabrieken. Bij terugkomst won ze de prestigieuze Zilveren Camera award. “De wereld is zo opgedeeld in regels, vormen, structuren en patronen, waar wij als individu in moeten passen. De wrijving die daardoor ontstaat, zie je in al mijn werk.” Het afgelopen jaar is ze zich steeds meer gaan richten op beeldvorming en de macht van de fotograaf daarin.

Photographer Cigdem Yuksel aims her camera on subjects where there is tension, where conflict is or is emerging. She worked for the newspaper ‘de Volkskrant’ and focused her lens mostly on the refugee crisis. In 2016 she traveled to the Turkish city Gaziantep with two reporters and created a harrowing portrait series of Syrian refugee children that were working in shoe factories. Upon returning she won the prestigious ‘Zilveren Camera’ award. “The world is so divided by rules, shapes, structures and patterns in which we have mould ourselves as individuals. The tension that it creates is reflected in all of my work.” The past year she has started to focus more on imaging and the power of the photographer in it.
